Review: Sing it! Say it! Stamp it! Sway it! Vol. 2™ Peter & Ellen Allard School Library Journal May 2000 Sing It! Say It! Stamp It! Sway It!, Vol. 2 CD 42:30 min. with lyrics. This recording delivers one of the best examples of “less is more” music available in today’s market. Stripping away the glitz and glamour of high-tech accompaniment, the Allard’s successfully present uncomplicated, catchy tunes with simple vocals and sparse instrumentation. The recording begins with a welcoming song “Glad To See You,” and ends with “A Goodbye Song” that may be useful for the opening and closing of preschool story times along with other titles such as “As Quiet Can Be.” These sing-along songs and chants such as “Hello, My Name Is Joe’” and “Five Little Chickadees” encourage movement and playful singing. Call-and-response titles, like “Flea Fly” and “Down By The Ocean” are not only entertaining, but provide an opportunity for younger children to practice their listening skills. The majority of the songs on this album are most appropriate for children ages birth to five, although a few of the titles will appeal to early elementary graders. This recording is destined to become a favorite of adults who work with preschool children, as well as the children themselves. Purchase multiple copies if the budget allows or, at the very least, one for use in the library and one for circulating purposes. -Kirsten Martindale, Buford Academy, GA |
